Hi. I'm Paul Croft, the Longshot Spotter! I make profit from my betting by looking for longshots. What is a longshot? Its not what you might think.... Its not a horse that is priced 100/1 or has very little chance or winning, quite the opposite, its a horse that has been under valued in the betting markets and stands a very good chance of being there or there abouts come the finish. There's one thing you need to understand about horse race betting and that's you should never be put off by the price of a horse. Spotting Big Priced Winners Means Making Profit Becomes Easy! It becomes easy, by placing the right bet... Imagine betting on a horse to win, say a favourite at even money (1/1). If you put £10 on the horse to win and it does just that, you make £10 profit. Not imagine using that same £10 as an each way bet on a 16/1 horse. Even if the horse was to place we'd see a profit of £11, with the added bonus of if the horse wins of adding another £96 to that amount. I'm sure you've seen low priced horses in a field, seen write ups about them and even tipsters tip them. Only for them to finish way down the field. It just goes to prove that the bookies are not interested in pricing the horses based on who they think will win, for them its all about avoiding paying out as much as they can and making a profit. With the right research you can spot the higher priced horses and that is what I do. It comes down to gaining an edge. Any small advantage you can give yourself will result in more profit over time. I have found 2 such advantages... First its about race selection, not so much the distance and going but the runners in the race. Finding runners that are dropping in distance or grade, horses carrying smaller handicaps. Finding these races is just a case of research and hard work. The next advantage is even simpler and one that the bookies actually give to us. Its where they're offer extra paid places on certain races. Just becase they offer this doesn't mean I bet in that race, but if the race I have selected anyway, is paying 4 places in stead of 3 then I'm going to take that advantage any day of the week. But there's one thing you need to understand about betting... Its Not About Winners, Its About Profit As I said before, backing an even money horse to win provides less profit than a 16/1 horse backed each way that only places. Its about adding up these profits and to enable me to do this I back 2 selections per race. This means that both horse can return a profit in the race. It also gives us 2 chances of a big return for the winner. Because I am backing 2 horses per race, with up to a maximum 5 races per day I use £10 per selection as a £5 each way bet, this means the total outlay is £20 per race as the maximum. With a maximum on the day of £100. To show you the the benefit of this approach, look at the bets I placed on Friday 3rd Jan..
